Home Build Part 1

Growing up, Brett’s dad trimmed houses and so Brett was in new houses a lot which made him anxious to someday build his very own home. We had been dreaming of what our future house would look like just a few months after meeting (because when you know, you know, as they say). Since he first started talking about building, it was always “our,” “we,” and “us” anytime he would talk about it and I always loved that. Mostly I helped decide on physical aspects of the house while he did ALL the real work, and he still gives me more credit than I give myself and I love him for that.
In September 2019 Brett and I surveyed our land and broke ground days later! I’ll admit, for the first few months of the build I felt like no help, because there wasn’t anything I could do besides dream up ideas from Pinterest (poor me, lol). We both knew the style of home we were going for, but we thought it would be fun to go on the Parade of Homes tour to get more ideas.

The first several homes we looked at were just not our style. I was disappointed until we came across one that we both adored and so began my obsession with hexagonal bathroom tile, a giant stairwell mirror, and ship lap hallway wall! I ended up with all three things in our home and I am thankful!

One thing we had been looking forward to for a long while was the pretty sunsets we would watch from our back deck once we got moved in. I can confirm now that we see some beautiful ones!

Once the framing was over we collected all the leftover lumber and put it into a pile. This was my first time driving a skid steer! Later that night we burned the pile and invited over friends and family. Fall is better with bonfires!A part 2 blog post will go into the rest of the home building plus the prettier stuff like cabinets and flooring.🙌🏼
