Baby Registry – Where to Begin

I’d been putting off my registry really until just the other day… not because I wasn’t excited to add things to my wishlist – but because I had no idea where to start. But with my mom and my mother-in-law asking about it (and not mention the stress of a ticking clock), I knew I needed to suck it up and do some research.

There are Pinterest articles out there that list just the newborn necessities rather than all the fluff new moms don’t reallyyy need, and I looked through them, but I was worried that maybe the lists were TOO minimalistic. I needed a different game plan, so I decided to ask on Instagram and boy was it oh-so-helpful!

I received so much advice on what I will really need from veteran moms to new moms who had just recently been through the same stage of life I am in now.

Because so many moms recommended the same products over and over again, it was so easy to see what I absolutely needed to register for! It was so helpful to me that I wanted to share the products that were recommended with anyone else out there needing a little registry help.

I am in no way taking credit for the recs in this post – I owe it all to the mamas who helped me out on Insta. So thank you all!

I put the items in order of popularity based on comments on my post. Items in bold are ones that we registered for or have already purchased.

P.S. Another helpful tip is to register on Babylist (I stole the idea from my sister who is also expecting)! Rather than having multiple registries – which stresses me out – on Babylist, you can register for things that you find anywhere online on this one site and it even shows you prices at different stores so you can choose the best-priced item!

Mama Must-Haves

Hatch sound machine (the most recommended item)!

Sleep sacks (the zipper type, specifically)

Swaddles

NoseFrida snotsucker

Lounger (the most recommended was Boppy and Dockatot but Snuggle Me was also popular)!

Haakkaa (for breastfeeding)

Owlet (we will be purchasing one but will be looking for one on Marketplace to save money)

Nipple cream (many recommended Lanolin)

Halo bassinet (purchasing a slightly-used one)!

Carrier (I registered for one from Tuck & Bundle)

Teethers (especially Sophie the Giraffe)

Burp cloths

mamaRoo baby swing (contemplating this one)!

Bibs (we registered for cute cloth ones as well as one that catches food when it falls)

Copper Pearl Brand items (we registered for cloth bibs here)

Humidifier

Crib sheets

Otteroo

Diaper Genie

Wipes (didn’t go crazy with this one as you never know which brand baby will like best)

Fingernail grinder (recommended rather than clippers)

Pacifiers

Nursing pads

Bath seat

Some items that were not mentioned but are more of a “given:”

Diaper bag (we were gifted one that is Petunia Pickle Bottom brand, and will be purchasing another kind, as well)

Stroller

Diapers (Brett is going to have a Diapers & Dudes party to stock up on these)!

Crib

Changing table and accessories (we are just going to use a dresser with a changing pad on top). This includes changing pad and covers.

Bouncer or swing (or both)

I am sure this does not complete the list of necessities for all, as all moms have different opinions, but if there is something else you found totally helpful with your newborn, please let me know in the comments!

Happy registering!
