Our Babymoon

Brett and I have traveled to many places since the beginning of our relationship – Cancun, Myrtle Beach, Colorado, Punta Cana…

With our son arriving here in just a few short months, we realize our days of picking up and leaving on a whim are coming to an end. We wanted to go on one last trip [babymoon] before he arrives and since it had been cold almost everywhere in the country, we chose one of few places where it was warm – Miami!

Our quality time together will surely not end once the baby is here, but we know it will no longer be “all about us” anymore. We were sure to soak up our time together and will continue to do so until May when we meet our son and our life changes forever.

We left on a Thursday and came back Sunday. A short-and-sweet, very special little getaway!

We didn’t accomplish much that first day when we arrived – we had been up since 3am, so after renting a jeep from the airport, eating lunch, and checking out the beach for a bit, we went back to our room for a nap around 6 which ended up lasting til morning! We didn’t even eat supper…that’s when you know you’re worn out.

We were all rested up the next morning for a day at the beach and pool – after breakfast of course! Brett’s breakfasts always include mimosas while we are on vacays. Yes, I was very envious!

The weather was amazing this day! It was so nice to feel the warm sun on us and I was in need of some color. We put our toes in the water but it was TOO COLD. I could not believe people were actually swimming in it. BUT, I am a huge baby when it comes to water temp – the water has to be w a r m and the air has to be h o t for me to get in!

I drank so many mocktails on this trip. No shame! My go-to was a pina colada and of course Brett’s bev of choice was beer!

Brett is usually more of a pool guy than a beach guy, so we spent a little time at the pool before another walk down to the beach and then a drive around the Sunny Isles area.

On our drive, we found a place to eat called The Porterhouse. We sat down inside and I told Brett it would have been nice to have sat outside on the patio, but the AC inside was awful nice. Then a few minutes later it started pouring! Luckily it was done raining by the time we finished eating and headed back to the jeep. Typical Florida weather!

Possibly my favorite part of our trip was the next morning. If you know me but at all, you know I am a morning person and love sunrises. So I got up early and caught the sunrise from our room (it had a beach view, therefor a view of the rising sun in the east)!

I wanted to enjoy my morning coffee on the beach, so we went down and sat in the sand for a bit and Brett snapped some maternity pictures for me!

Luckily, someone walked by us and offered to take our picture. I love these pictures with one reason being how similar a shot it is to a picture we had taken on the beach in Cancun shortly after meeting each other!

Our spring break trip to Cancun 2 years ago!

We ate breakfast at the restaurant inside our hotel again and I had round 2 of morning coffee – decaf this time! Then we got ready for another day at the beach, although this one wouldn’t last as long as the day before did.

It was a little chilly this day, so I was covered up in a towel on the beach but it didn’t keep us from enjoying our day. It was still many, many degrees warmer there than it was back home, after all!

A little later, we went on a nice long walk on the other side of the highway from where our resort was. A beach walk was out of the question because the wind had picked up so much that the blowing sand hurt our legs!

This was our last night, so we wanted to eat at a nice place and so we made reservations at a place called Juniper on the Water which was right along the bay! Luckily, the wind had calmed down and we were able to eat outside. As we sipped our drinks, we watched the big boats go by in front of the prettiest sunset!

We are so grateful to have been able to escape on this Babymoon and talk + dream about our baby boy. While our Babymoon may me over, the dreaming of our baby continues as we anxiously await his arrival!
