Oh Baby, Are We Thankful

Brett and I thought Thanksgiving would be a perfect time to share some big news – we are expecting!

It has been such a hard secret to keep from everyone, so it is such a relief to finally let everyone know. Now I don’t have to suck in all day at work or in pictures to hide my little baby bump, haha!

When we found out we were pregnant at the beginning of September, it was so unreal. Even after 3 positive pregnancy tests and every symptom in the book, I could hardly believe it! Brett kept having to tell me that YES, I AM pregnant – start believing it! At our 12-week checkup (our very first in-person prenatal appointment) I was amazed that there really was a baby in there. šŸ˜‰

I feel very lucky considering how I felt during the first trimester. Trust me, I had all the symptoms, but they were fairly tolerable. Cramps, stomach issues, and FATIGUE, my goodness! Those were my worst to deal with. Oh, and my aversion to coffee (what the heck, I’m a coffee lover)?!

Speaking of aversions, besides coffee, another aversion I have is wine. I am actually very thankful for this one because I was kinda bummed about giving up wine for 9+ months so it’s very convenient that I don’t even want it! Those have been my only consistent aversions. I haven’t had many cravings and none of the ones I have had are unusual cravings, other than them maybe being something I don’t usually want (looking at you, purple gatorade).

I am currently 14 weeks along and although I don’t have a big baby bump, I have had to change switch from one outfit to another last minute when I realized my belly stuck out a little too much to just blame it on eating too much for breakfast. šŸ˜‰

Although I am not to the point where I need to buy maternity clothes quite yet, I am not far from it! My first purchase is going to be maternity leggings – no explanation needed.

Someone in the family asked me the other day if I had bought things for the baby or the nursery yet and honestly I still have not bought a thing! I did not want go crazy buying things in the first trimester and figured there was no rush. I will have all of Christmas Break to online shop (that is dangerous, I know)! I guess I did make one purchase right after finding out I was pregnant – stretch mark cream! It’s never too early to start, right? Brett also bought me a pregnancy pillow the other day as a surprise which was super sweet. I think he may have purchased it for the added bonus that it would keep me on my own side of the bed, haha!

So What’s Baby Gonna Be?

After much anticipation, I got the call from a nurse saying what Baby H is just yesterday! I will save that surprise for another day, though, because I have some fun planned for my first graders next week where I will tell them I am having a baby and they will guess boy or girl! We just learned about voting earlier this month and they think it is so much fun to vote, so they will love it (and the snacks I plan to have for them).

For 12 weeks I never had a “feeling” about whether we would have a boy or girl but once we saw our baby during the ultrasound, I totally felt we would be having a boy because he acted ornery in my belly! Some family members also voted boy, but Brett didn’t have a feeling one way or the other. I can’t wait to tell you all what Baby H will be!

We are so very thankful for the little blessing God has given us! I can’t wait to be a mom and I am so ready to watch Brett be the best daddy!
