Finally Fall

I hope your Labor Day Weekend was as fun as ours was! We enjoyed some boating, floating, dirt track races, and live music. As fun as our entire summer was, we have been looking forward to this time of year when it is not quite as busy as it has been. Don’t think I am complaining though – everything we had planned was so much fun! 6 of our weekends were spent at a lake, 4 were spent at weddings (one of them being our own!), 1 weekend was spent at home celebrating Brett’s 30th birthday, and 1 weekend was spent in/traveling back from Punta Cana for our honeymoon. We only had one weekend spent at home with no plans and it felt odd to not have anything to do or anywhere to be!

My summer had an early start because of the Coronavirus and having to teach from home. It was one extra long break! I think this is one reason why I am okay with saying goodbye to summer and welcoming the new season. But to be sure I didn’t wish it away, I wanted to wait until Labor Day Weekend before I decorated. Now that I feel I have lived it to the fullest – bring on all the Fall dec!

Hello, Fall!

I had candles burning all day yesterday and drank a coconut version of a chai latte while I posted assignments for my virtual students in the AM. I realized I am out of cappuccino and will be getting some ASAP – my chai latte wasn’t as good as I had hoped. At least it looked cute in the picture, though, right?

It was 93 degrees outside yesterday, and today was 62 – Missouri is crazy, but I’m not complaining! I saw yesterday as the possible last day I could lay out and get some sun for the year so I soaked up as much of it as I could. Good thing I did because the temperature all this week will be cool like today was!

Our Plans

A new season is kind of like a fresh start and so we have been thinking about a few things we would like to get done around here. During my time off from school I had the goal of staining our deck but didn’t get around to it, but doing it when the weather isn’t so toasty will be better anyway. We haven’t used our back deck much since we have moved in because it faces the west and doesn’t provide much shade in the afternoon hours. Brett did use the deck to grill some apple and cajun brats because is it a summer holiday weekend without grilling something? Nope!

Once the deck is stained we would also like to find some outdoor furniture to go on it as well as out patio downstairs and out front, too. We are hoping to catch an end-of-season sale because outdoor furniture can cost just as much or more than indoor furniture! I have my eye on a hightop table and chairs that I hope we can fin on sale – crossing my fingers!

We haven’t planted many plants since we have been in our house because in the spring we were so busy with the more important things that needed to be done and before we knew it, it was a little too hot to be planting much so we decided to wait until fall. I can’t wait to get ALL the mums, too! Brett has big plans for the back yard – he does own a landscape business, after all, so he will make it look amazing!

Brett also wants to do some work this fall/winter at our lake lot. He is going to pour a concrete pad for our camper to sit on and will build a retaining wall – it will be all ready to go for next summer!

I am also hoping this season involves more lake trips (if you haven’t been camping at the lake in the fall, you need to), bonfires, time with family and friends, and movie nights-in, and I hope the same for you!

Happy Fall to you all, and I hope you find many reasons to be happy!
