Alabama 2023

We recently traded hot + dry Missouri air for hot + humid Alabama air (with a beach on the side)!

Mostly, our days consisted of lagoon days, beach days, some pool time, family meals both at the house and at local restaurants, and a trip to the zoo. Oh, and I can’t forget the hours of work that Morgan put in on his skid steer and excavator – the first thing he did when we arrived at the house was start scooping pebbles!

We started the next morning with a walk to the pier (after coffee w/ a view) which was right next to our house. We also checked out the lagoon area just down the trail, and decided we better make it a lagoon day since we got a great spot on the beach! Morgan decided the sand was perfect for scooping.

That evening, we drove to Orange Beach to eat at Zeke’s and this was my favorite place we ate all week! After we ate, we all went out to see the boats that had just come in from fishing. Brett grabbed us some drinks from the outdoor bar and we watched the sunset and listened to live music!

This was Morgan’s first trip to the ocean as well as my nephew, Dawson’s. The waves took a little getting used to for M, but his cousin helped him get more comfortable in the water and on our last beach day, we about had to drag them out of the water they were having so much fun! M’s favorite thing to do at the beach was to, of course, scoop with his machinery!

We ended the night with a sunset walk on the pier and watching the tons of hermit crabs below us.

The last time we came to Gulf Shores, we visited a cool interactive zoo and we knew we wanted to come back to it with the boys. Morgan and I got to pet red kangaroos together and then he and Brett petted a sloth!

A family trip to the beach calls for family photos! They were our first family photos with my future sister-in-law, Emily, too!

The rest of the trip consisted of another lagoon day and a beach day, a shrimp boil, morning coffees whether on the deck or by the ocean, and lots of smiles from Morgan. Brett and I had an amazing time ourselves, but watching Morgan have fun and enjoy every minute is what we lived for! I also want to add that I did my social media fast (explained in a previous post) at the perfect time, because I was able to focus on what was happening at the moment during this entire vacation without my face being in my phone!
